Simple Joy

It was a lazy Saturday. Relaxing from work, no errands to do. Just a simple "me" time with my computer. Until I heard sounds of flapping wings of a bird inside the house. No big deal, I told myself. It got in, it would definitely fly back to where it came from. Then I heard something fell, followed by a faint thud on the window. So I had to rush to my room to see what happened. My sunglasses was already on the floor, and a cute little fellow on my window.

Slowly, I walked closer. But being in an unfamiliar place and with a stranger approaching, the little fellow tried to escape again. It just flew and flew inside the room hitting the walls and the windows that I can imagine it so scared and screaming for dear life, until it finally became helpless and just hid under the table. Again, I moved closer. I thought it would desperately fly away again. But to my surprise, it stood still, looking at me like begging me not to hurt him.

I was crushed. I hesitated for awhile. I do not have any idea how to assure this little fellow that my intentions are pure. But I know I must do something. So in the dearest way, I whispered, "come here..." I held on it as softly as I can. Probably too tired and too scared, the winged fellow just kept looking at me with beak open. Whether it was thanking me or still praying for his life, I just looked at my new acquaintance and smiled.

I opened the window then held out my hand as if offering the sky. For the last time it looked at me for a second, then extended its wings and embraced the freedom that was once lost. And then again, I smiled.
